Hockey Canada Reveals 2018 Men’s Olympic Roster

The team is packed with NHL veterans.

If you’ve been following the recent drama between the National Hockey League and International Olympic committee, you’re well aware that the two haven’t been getting along lately. This dispute has sadly resulted in the NHL barring its players from competing in next month’s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Last spring, the league put out an official statement calling their Olympic ban a “closed matter” and claimed that all of their clubs were against sending players overseas. This means that traveling fans hoping to see Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, and Alex Ovechkin play for the gold medal in South Korea will be totally out of luck.

Despite this unfortunate news, the Olympics are still promising an entertaining tournament both on the women’s and men’s level. Even without NHL star power, the games will be packed with high-level play and they’ll feature a good number of familiar names to boot. Just a few days ago, USA Hockey announced a preliminary roster highlighted by former stars like Brian Gionta and journeymen like Mark Arcobello and Bobby Butler.

Not one to be outdone, Hockey Canada has responded today with their own roster reveal, and while it fails to include elite scoring talent, the team will still be packed with enough veterans to be considered tournament favourites. You can see the full list for yourself below. Canada’s first men’s game will be on the February 15th against Switzerland.
