UPDATED 9/6/17, 11:00 a.m. EST:
TMZ Sports is now reporting that the man Jason Whitlock used to impersonate Colin Kaepernick as part of a skit is not white. Rather, it is Christopher Reid, a.k.a. Kid from Kid 'n Play. The entire skit that features him playing the part of Kaepernick is yet to air on Fox Sports.
See original story below.
On Tuesday night, sports journalist Jason Whitlock discussed Colin Kaepernick on his FS1 show Speak for Yourself. That part's not so unusual—Kap has been the talk of the sports world since his decision to protest police violence by refusing to stand for the national anthem a year ago.
However, what was unusual was Whitlock's choice to have a white man show up dressed as Kap during the segment. The man was decked out in Kaepernick jersey, Afro wig, and black glove, and gave a Black Power salute. "Great to have Kap stop by the studio today," Whitlock tweeted, next to a picture of himself alongside the impersonator. You can see the tweet above.
Reaction to Whitlock's choice of impersonators was roundly trounced.Â
Fellow sportscaster Shannon Sharpe, who frequently works with Whitlock and also appears on FS1, was very critical, though he said he would "discuss" the bit on his show later on.
