Fed-Up Melbourne Supporter Roasts Coach Simon Goodwin In A Letter

The former fan even made sure to include his now-destroyed membership card.

Melbourne Demons supporters have been through a lot. The team last played finals over 10 years ago and last played in a Grand Final 17 years ago. A Premiership? That was over 50 years ago in 1964. Calling the team success-starved is an understatement.

Although Melbourne has shown signs of improvement this year with three wins out of its first seven games and a list full of impressive young players, one particular fan is tired of the perennial futility. Following the Demons’ heartbreaking three-point loss to Hawthorn, the super fan–who has been a member for 25 years–sent a letter including a destroyed membership card with a request for Melbourne Coach Simon Goodwin to pay back the money.

The fan was particularly annoyed at Goodwin’s team selection for the Demons’ matchup against the Hawks, a rivalry that has proven to be very one-sided in recent history.

“Your inept selection on Sunday and preparation is unforgivable. I would like a full refund out of your own pocket for my membership and not from the club,” the enraged fan wrote.

The fan also roasted the continued selection of young forward Jay Kennedy-Harris in the team.

“Jay Kennedy-Harris has done zero for two weeks, the majority of supporters see it and know he has no X-factor, is physically inferior, has no impact at all and is not AFL standard, never has been.”

Even some of the Demons’ best players including Jack Viney, Nathan Jones and Dom Tyson were singled out for poor possession from the armchair coach. The fan’s letter ended with an emphatic statement that is sure to shake Goodwin to his core.

“From now on I’m just a barracker, not a supporter.”
