Here's How Marshawn Lynch Celebrated Signing With the Raiders

Marshawn Lynch celebrated signing with the Raiders this week by throwing a block party in his old neighborhood in Oakland.

Earlier this week, Marshawn Lynch officially announced that he will be playing in the NFL again next season. The Seahawks and Raiders worked out a trade, and Lynch signed a deal with Oakland that will see him playing out the end of his career in his hometown. And no one is happier about it than Lynch himself, who sent out the perfect message on social media to let everyone know about his return:

The Raiders also posted this clip of Lynch arriving for his first day of work with the Raiders:

On Wednesday, TMZreported that Lynch was planning to throw a huge block party in the area surrounding his Beast Mode Apparel store in downtown Oakland. According to a source who spoke with TMZ, the party was going to be—ahem—"bonkers" and feature appearances by Michael B. Jordan, E-40, Derek Carr, and more. It was reportedly going to cover three city blocks and be the biggest party of the year in Oakland.

Just one problem: The party never happened. At around 4 p.m., NBC News reporter Scott Budman showed up to check out the festivities and found this on Beast Mode Apparel’s front door:

Other people showed up, too, and were disappointed to see that there was no block party in progress. In fact, the Beast Mode store wasn’t even open:

But there was a good reason for that: There was a party thrown to celebrate Lynch signing with Oakland, it just wasn’t where most people thought it was going to be. According to social media reports, Lynch decided to throw his block party in his old neighborhood instead of outside his store:

But it was reportedly closed to the public. San Jose Mercury News reporter Daniel Brown tried to his make his way into the party but was denied access:

He said Lynch was "super nice" about it but wouldn’t let him in:

There is proof that the party happened, though. While there aren’t a ton of photos and videos available as of right now, several people who made their way inside documented the experience. This Twitter user shared a quick video that showed everyone having a good time at the party:

Another shared a shot of Lynch hanging out with his friends and family:

Lynch’s cousin Mistah F.A.B. shared this epic shot of him with Lynch and Draymond Green, who made his way down to the party at one point:

And this Twitter user managed to get into the party, too. She shared a shot of her with Green along with a recap of the guest list:

It doesn’t look like the party was as big as some people originally expected it to be. It also doesn’t look like Lynch had any interest in celebrating with the Raiders fans outside of his immediate circle. But if all goes according to plan, there will be plenty of time for that later. For now, it’s just good to see Lynch back where he belongs—preparing for another NFL season and doing it in his hometown.
