Just last week we heard that Carmelo Anthony had no interest in waiving his no-trade clause to leave the Knicks, then we heard the opposite and found out that he was reconsidering.
Despite his apparent change of heart, it doesn't seem that the Knicks are having any luck unloading their All-Star (in spite of their apparent effort) as, according to ESPN, the Cavs have no interest in swapping him for Kevin Love:
League sources further said that New York approached Cleveland to feel out their interest but, simply put, there was none. As we said earlier, Anthony has a full no-trade clause (just one of three players in the NBA with that luxury), and though he never agreed to waive it in order to go to the Cavs, that's because the Knicks weren't going to approach him with that offer unless Cleveland had a mutual interest.Â
Perhaps NY felt this would be a good fit because, earlier this week, LeBron James made it clear that he thinks his team needs "a f*cking playmaker." While it's likely they're still looking to acquire said "f*cking playmaker," they're not willing to part with a player as important as Love to do it.
As for Phil Jackson and Co., we guess it's back to the drawing board. He and his posse front office have until the trade deadline (a.k.a. February 23) to get a deal done.
