Any time Ray Lewis starts trending on Twitter in 2016, it’s probably not a good thing. Not for him, at least. Once upon a time, the former Ravens linebacker trended on social media for making big hits on the football field, but these days, Lewis trends more often than not for expressing his often unpopular opinions on TV shows. And that’s exactly what is happening right now as a result of his appearance on Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe’s new Fox Sports 1 show, Undisputed, on Thursday morning.

During the show, Lewis was asked to share his opinion on the Colin Kaepernick situation. He responded by offering up some unsolicited advice to the 49ers quarterback and telling him to "take the flag out of it."

“I understand what you're trying to do…take the flag out of it.” — @raylewis to Colin Kaepernick pic.twitter.com/XPYpJ9L3mE

"My only advice for Colin Kaerpernick is this: Listen, I understand what you’re trying to do," Lewis said. "But understand, take the flag out of it. I have uncles, I got brothers who walked out of my house going into the military that said, 'I will never see you again.' To understand that, I will always respect that part of what our patriotism should be."

The reaction to Lewis’ advice for Kaepernick has been, well, not good. Just like Jerry Rice, Tiki Barber, and Rodney Harrison before him, Lewis has gotten picked apart on Twitter this afternoon for speaking out against Kaepernick's actions. Here’s why Lewis is currently trending on the social media site:

Lol Ray Lewis know how to play football ...that's it ... I wouldn't ask Ray Lewis how he felt about anything else
