UPDATED 12:30 p.m. EST:

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has shot down reports about Allen Iverson leaving his HOF trophy behind in a Sheraton Springfield hotel room after his HOF induction ceremony on Friday night. According to a spokesperson for the HOF, AI didn't forget his trophy. Rather, he left it at the hotel to be shipped to his home.

"About half of these players in the past 12 years have done this," Fran Judkins, Senior Director of Professional Relations for the HOF, told TMZ Sports. "[Inductees] leave their trophies at the hotel so they don’t have to worry about taking them on a plane or traveling with extra luggage. The hotel staff knows about this. They call me and let me know when I can pick up the trophies to ship to their houses. This is a very common thing to do. I also have another trophy that was left at the hotel [this year]."

On Friday night, Allen Iverson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. He delivered an excellent speech during his induction and, like every other Hall of Famer before him, he received a HOF trophy to give him physical proof that he's now considered one of the best basketball players of all time. You know, just in case he ever runs into someone who hasn't seen any of these highlights.

So how much did this symbol used to commemorate his fantastic 15-year NBA career mean to AI? Well, if you take a look at the photo above, it appears as though he was prepared to hold on to it forever when he was first given the trophy. But according to the Boston-based radio program, Toucher and Rich Show, that feeling quickly faded a short time after the HOF induction ceremony ended. Early Wednesday, a Toucher and Rich listener revealed that AI forgot the trophy after he checked out of the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel over the weekend:

As of right now, it's still unclear if that is, in fact, AI's HOF trophy. The Springfield Sheraton did not immediately respond to Complex's request for comment on the trophy on Wednesday. But if AI did leave his trophy behind just hours after receiving it, it wouldn't be all that surprising. He did, after all, show up late to his own HOF press conference on Thursday after reportedly missing a flight to Springfield:

That trophy must look awfully silly sitting next to all of the random phone chargers, keys, and other crap that people leave behind in hotel rooms.
