Deep down, the NFL is probably not OK with its players owning guns. In the past, there have been quite a few players who have gotten themselves into trouble as a result of carrying guns, so if the league had its way, it would likely force all players to stop purchasing guns.
They can’t legally do that, though, and according to studies that have been done, there are a lot of NFL players who own guns. So according to ESPN, the NFL is currently pulling out all the stops when it comes to teaching players about being responsible gun owners. This year, the league reportedly even went as far as to start training players about how to use their guns in certain situations. It was a hot topic on ESPN First Take on Wednesday with Stephen A. Smith, Max Kellerman, and Damien Woody discussing the NFL’s stance on guns at length:
Snoop Dogg was tuned into the show and he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. The NFL has come down really hard on players who smoke weed—most recently, Bills star nose tackle Marcell Dareus was suspended for the first four games of the 2016-17 NFL season for reportedly missing a drug test—and Snoop doesn’t agree with it, especially in light of the news about the league’s position on guns. Snoop thinks the NFL should allow players to smoke weed if they want to do it instead of teaching them about guns. Here’s the brief rant he posted on Instagram on Wednesday night:
"So the NFL want to give players rights to carry guns but won’t give them the rights to smoke weed?" Snoop said in the NSFW clip. "They already violent as fuck playing football. Give them something to turn them down: Weed! We should say motherfucking marijuana is legal, not fucking guns, you goofy ass motherfuckers. NFL, y’all stupid as fuck. Man, get at me about fixing this shit. How y’all gonna clear guns but don’t clear motherfuckin’ marjuana? Marijuana calms a motherfucker down. Guns turn a motherfucker up. Nothing goes right with guns."
Snoop is obviously a big weed advocate, so his position on this particular subject shouldn’t come as a surprise. He’s a guy who posted this on his Instagram account on Thursday morning:
But he’s not the only person who thinks the NFL needs to loosen up its restrictions with regards to allowing players to use marijuana. And while it’s highly unlikely the league will change its position on the matter overnight, it feels like the subject of NFL players using weed is going to continue to be one that people talk about as long as players like Dareus continue to get into trouble for doing it.
