Derek Jeter didn’t end up getting married over the 4th of July weekend like many people expected him to, but the Yankees legend is in the headlines anyway right now as a result of his weekend activities.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Jeter was issued a $250 boating citation on Monday after he accidentally drove his boat into restricted waters near MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla. U.S. Air Force security reportedly pulled Jeter’s boat over and issued him a ticket after telling him what he had done wrong. And while that in and of itself probably wouldn’t have made national news, it turned into a much bigger deal than it was a short time later after an active-duty Air Force airman took a photo of the ticket that was given to Jeter and posted it on Facebook along with the caption, “On behalf of the Boston Red Sox, here is your ticket Derek Jeter.” He also included what appeared to be a photo of Jeter on his boat. The photos have since been deleted, but Total Pro Sports screengrabbed the original FB post:

The airman’s decision to post the photo on social media forced the U.S. Air Force to issue an apology on Tuesday.

"This action is totally inconsistent with Air Force values and the responsible Airman will face the appropriate disciplinary action," MacDill Air Force Base spokesman Terry Montrose said in a statement. "We sincerely apologize to Mr. Jeter for an inconvenience."

It’s unclear if the airman who issued the citation to Jeter is the same person who posted the photo on Facebook at this time as the airman has not been identified. But regardless, it sounds like he’s going to be in deep trouble for what he did, and trolling Jeter on Facebook probably wasn’t worth it in the end. Jeter is yet to comment on the situation.
