Former Rams draft pick and trailblazer for openly gay NFL players Michael Sam had some choice words for Donald Trump when he was asked his opinion of the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
Sam was asked by TMZ Sports outside of the West Hollywood nightclub Bootsy Bellows on Saturday, and he immediately responded about Trump by saying, "He's an asshole." This was in reaction to Trump backtracking on his words about the gay community in the wake of the Orlando shooting in June, and citing that Trump's sentiment was transparent rather than genuine in support of the LGBT community. For what it's worth, Trump has not made a statement on Sam in 2016.
Trump had a different take when he spoke in 2014 on the Fox News Network's Fox and Friends about Sam who showed PDA to his then-boyfriend at the 2014 NFL draft when he was selected by the Rams. He stated that "we've become so politically correct that the country has gone to hell." Trump continued his quote by stating Sam kissing his then-boyfriend on camera at the NFL Draft:
Sam topped off his answer about Trump by supporting the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, by saying, "You wanna vote for someone who has LGBT rights, vote for Hillary."
Clearly, Sam's with her, and not with Trump for November's election.
