Amir Khan thinks his future might lie in mixed martial arts.

After getting knocked out cold by Canelo Alvarez earlier this year, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist has been quietly plotting his next move – but that doesn't mean he hasn't got the time to keep talking about fights that will never actually happen.

After chasing a fight with the now-retired Floyd Mayweather for the best part of five years, Khan is talking up a fight with one of the other biggest names in combat sports – and someone who Mayweather has been rumoured to face – UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor.

Speaking to flocombat.com, Khan says he'll fight McGregor if Mayweather won't:

"[Mayweather versus McGregor] was little more than a publicity stunt...It just depends on the weight category. But look, as a fighter, that's a fight I would take. McGregor is a massive name in MMA, and I'm a big name in boxing, so globally, I think it would be a massive fight.

Mayweather and McGregor have been embroiled in a bitter war of words for over a year, with speculation mounting that the two were in negotiations for a financially record-breaking boxing match later this year.

That won't happen. And this definitely won't happen. Amir Khan just likes the way his name looks in a headline next to Floyd Mayweather.
