The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in trading for Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose, according to ESPN sources. Both the Knicks' head coach, Jeff Hornacek, and general manager, Steve Mills, have previously mentioned the Knicks are shopping for a point guard, and the organization's higher-ups have reportedly "had internal discussions recently about trading for Rose."

It's not known whether the Bulls are actively shopping Rose or what the Knicks would offer, according to the report. What strong trade pieces does New York really have, anyway? Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis are probably untouchable unless Chicago could put more on the table. The Knicks would likely need to throw in at least one future first-round pick.

However, it's obvious why the Knicks are interested. Rose's current value, for a somewhat recent MVP, is low, and New York's current point guard options are Jose Calderon, Jerian Grant, and Tony Wroten.

There is only one year left on Rose's contract, and because of his recent hard fortunes, it wouldn't be a surprise if he were tempted by the allure of a new destination and fresh start. This year, he played in 66 games and averaged 16.4 points and 4.7 assists. The Bulls finished two games behind the Detroit Pistons for the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.

It'd be hard to argue that both teams could use a shake up, and it'd likely be a good thing for Rose as well. After winning NBA MVP in 2011, Rose—who is only 27—has been plagued by knee injuries. He has appeared in only 50 percent of the Bulls' regular season games over the past four years.

Though we've seen promising glimpses, he has never returned to dominant form. He has not made the All-Star team since 2012, when he was a fan favorite instead of a punchline and actually received more votes than LeBron James.
