Things have been pretty great for Warriors fans the past two seasons. Over the last 20 months, they’ve seen their team hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the first time in 40 years, enjoyed one of the best two-year individual stretches ever as Steph Curry broke countless records en route to back-to-back MVP honors, and got to see the Dubs break the ’95-96 Bulls’ regular-season record by going 73-9.

But now Golden State finds itself down 3-1 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, and the team’s fans are having trouble wrapping their heads around this foreign concept called failure. If you follow anyone from the Bay Area on social media, you’ve probably witnessed them painfully and publicly transition through the five stages of grief. Many find themselves stuck in the “denial” phase.

With just one loss standing between the Warriors and suffering one of the most disappointing sports letdowns in modern history, we decided to peruse Twitter for find the 10 most popular excuses being made by Dubs fans to explain their team’s struggles.

According to Golden State fans, the Warriors are losing because...

…Steph Curry is hurt.

Of all the excuses we found (and we found a lot of them), this one is probably the most legitimate. During the regular season, Steph Curry put together one of the most dominant stretches in NBA history, averaging 30.1 points, 6.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.1 steals while shooting 50.4 percent from the floor, 45.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 90.8% from the free-throw line. But ankle and knee injuries in the postseason have derailed the two-time reigning MVP. In the postseason, he’s experienced drop offs in every major statistical category, including 3-point percentage, which has fallen to a mortal 38.1%. Steph just ain’t Steph since he slipped on that sweat.

…Steph Curry is getting fouled off the ball.

And as if the fact that Steph Curry’s knee was holding him back in this series weren’t enough, the Thunder are absolutely MUGGING him off the ball. I mean, you guys all see that, right? RIGHT?!

…Steph Curry won the MVP.

And on top of the injuries and the BLATANT pro-Thunder bias of the referees in this series, Steph’s at a distinct disadvantage because he just won back-to-back MV– wait, what?

…They didn't win Game 1.

Lost in all of this noise about Steph Curry and the unjustness of his struggles is the fact that the Warriors wouldn’t find themselves down 3-1 in this series if they’d just won Game 1 instead of losing it 108-102 on their home floor. Really makes you think.

…The referees are biased against them.

As we all know, the league’s referees have been officiating with a noticeable anti-Steph bias this entire series. And now they’re even intentionally blowing calls against other Warriors players, too. I mean, it’s not the only reason they lost Game 4, but those two bad calls that went against them certainly didn’t help!

…Owner Joe Lacob jinxed them.

In April, Warriors owner Joe Lacob was quoted in New York Times Magazine as saying that his team was “light-years” ahead of the rest of the league. The braggadocios statement rubbed many around the league the wrong way, and it also had the unintended effect of angering the basketball gods.

…THE NBA IS CONSPIRING AGAINST THEM BUT ALSO FOR THEM I GUESS.

I mean, it kind of makes sense if you don’t think about it for more than about four seconds.

…They are too good.

Irregardless of the 3-1 hole in which the Warriors now find themselves, Golden State is simply too good to go out like this. I mean, they went 73-9 remember? REMEMBER?!

…Well, I got nothing, BUT 73-9!!!

So what that the Warriors probably aren’t going to make it out of the conference finals despite being one the most dominant teams in NBA history? Who cares? At the end of the day, when all is said and done, people remember regular-season records, not rings!

…LeBron James runs the NBA.
