Manny Pacquiao well into the path he has set for himself as a politician in his post-boxing career. He was officially Tuesday voted into the "Upper House" of the Philippines government, which is the equivalent to the U.S. Senate.

The 37-year-old boxing legend received at least 15.2 million votes, with 93 percent of votes accounted for in Monday's election. Pacquiao finished eighth out of the 50 candidates who campaigned in the national race. The candidates who finished in the top 12 out of the 50 will be added to the 24 total seats in their "Upper House." Pacquiao will serve a six-year term in his newly appointed post.

To give context of his remarkable life path as a boxer and politician, Pacquiao is a high school dropout who left home at age 14 and briefly lived on the streets of Manila before taking up boxing. He finished his legendary boxing career with a record of 58-6-2, with 38 knockouts under his belt, and is the first and only eight-division world champion with ten titles. In May 2010, at age 32, he was elected as a congressman to the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines, representing his province of Sarangani. He was re-elected in 2013 to the 16th Congress of the Philippines. In May 2015, Forbes named him the second highest paid athlete in the world. Pacquiao retired from boxing in April after his final fight, when defeated Timothy Bradley by unanimous decision.
