FIBA have announced the groups for the 2016 Olympic men’s basketball tournament, with the Boomers to compete in Group A.

Australia will go head to head in the preliminary rounds with Venezuela and powerhouses China and the USA. The three teams will be joined by two further countries who are yet to qualify. The final qualifiers will be confirmed on July 10.

The Boomers have named a strong 26-man squad, which will be narrowed down in the first week of July. The preliminary team is deep with NBA talent, including NBA champs Patty Mills and Andrew Bogut, alongside Matthew Dellavedova, Joe Ingles, Cameron Bairstow, Aron Baynes and Dante Exum.

Group B is currently made up of Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Nigeria and Lithuania.
