Less than a week after Frank Bruno unveiled his champion-like physique to the world, he's revealed that he'd like to make a real return to the ring.

In an interview with This Morning on ITV to talk about mental health, 54-year-old Bruno said that he feels training for a return to the ring is the only thing that keep him out of psychiatric hospital:

“I’ve got to get back into boxing, to get this out of my system, because I don’t want to end up in Broadmoor hospital. I’ve been in the gym all the time, that’s why I want to come back into boxing.

Bruno also said he's motivated by a desire to show he can compete with Anthony Joshua.

Bruno also says he's been irked by claims from boxing promoter Eddie Hearn that current British champion – Anthony Joshua – could beat a 54-year-old man inside two rounds:

"I get Eddie Hearn, a so-called promoter, saying Anthony Joshua would knock me out in two rounds but I'm not even dead...I can't sit down and let these so called promoters say their guy would beat me in two rounds. I'm not going to let them mug me off."

The 54-year-old Londoner was one of the most successful British heavyweights of the 80s and 90s, winning the WBC belt but losing it to the all-conquering Mike Tyson.

Bruno has suffered a public battle with mental illness and has been sectioned three times since he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2003.
