When a Florida man walked into a Walgreen’s pharmacy on Valentine’s Day and attempted to steal prescription drugs from a pharmacist on duty, he probably didn’t plan on getting knocked out during the attempted robbery. But that’s exactly  what happened to him when the pharmacist’s boyfriend—a boxer who just so happened to be visiting her at work at the exact moment that the guy tried to rob the pharmacy—saw what was taking place and took the man down with a flurry of punches.

According to ABC13, David West, 25, saw Anthony Nemeth, 26, walk up to his girlfriend and demand prescription drugs from her. He responded by walking up to him, pulling him away from the counter, scrapping with him for a few seconds, and then ultimately knocking him out cold. West holds two state boxing titles and was able to overmatch Nemeth easily during their brief fight.

“He started fiddling with his hands and went to reach into his pants and that’s when I reacted,” West told ABC13 later. “I really wasn’t trying to hurt anybody. I was just trying to do what was right. I was protecting the one I love.”

In addition to helping his girlfriend, West told ABC13 that he hopes he helped Nemeth, too. Nemeth looked like he was in bad shape after getting knocked out:

And West is hoping that Nemeth will be able to use what happened to get his life together.

“I told him this,” he said. “I hope he uses this as a turning point in his life.”
