Sean Lee had $2 million reasons to suit and play in the Cowboys' season finale but the injured linebacker will be watching from the sidelines a whole lot poorer.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the six-year veteran had a salary escalator in his contract this season that would have kicked in had he played in 80 percent of the Cowboys' defensive snaps. It was looking like Lee's base salary would jump to nearly $5 million since he was on pace to exceed expectations before a hamstring injury popped up during practice this week.

Lee suffered the strain this past week and was listed as questionable going into the game against Washington. Dallas officially ruled him out after he tried warming up pregame.

Cowboys inactives are Jameill Showers, Rodney Smith (WR), Mo Claiborne, Sean Lee, La'el Collins, Chaz Green & Vince Mayle. #WASvsDAL

Tough way to start the new year. Maybe Jerry Jones will have a heart. Then again, a contrac's a contract.
