Marshawn Lynch is a great football player, but he seems like an even better guy off the field despite what his press conferences might lead you to believe. We found that out first-hand back in July when we traveled out to Oakland to shoot a mini-documentary on a youth football camp held by Beast Mode’s Fam 1st Family Foundation. There are a lot of pro athletes who have these kinds of foundations in place, but it doesn’t always seem like those athletes are as connected to their organizations as Lynch is.
Recently, Lynch once again proved just how committed he is to his foundation's cause with a small but meaningful gesture that he made on behalf of Fam 1st. After hearing about how a high school football player from Sacramento, Calif. named Jaulon “JJ” Clavo had been shot and killed on the day of a playoff game last month, Lynch went out of his way to send his family a personalized Seahawks jersey with Clavo’s name and number on it. And while Lynch didn’t publicize it, his former college teammate Quan Thompson acknowledged what he did with this lengthy Facebook post:
It’s obviously a very sad story, but it’s nice to see Lynch stepping up and playing a small part in helping Clavo’s family to recover.
