Mark Jackson has been forced to watch his old Warriors team become champions a year after he was fired. He's spending this year watching them improve into possibly the greatest team ever. You can understand if he gets a little cranky while watching them play.
During Christmas night's Cavaliers vs. Warriors game, Jackson made the classic cranky old man exclamation: This sacred game of basketball is being ruined. Steph Curry—who was pedestrian by his standards, shooting 6-of-15 for 19 points—is somehow the problem.
"He's hurting the game," he said. "And what I mean by that is that I go into these high school gyms, I watch these kids, and the first thing they do is they run to the 3-point line. You are not Steph Curry. Work on the other aspects of the game."
You've probably heard this argument before. When Allen Iverson was crossing over and speeding past dudes on the regular, a lot of teenage hopefuls forgot that it helps to know how to shoot. Simply being great doesn't ruin basketball, though; high school coaches just have to do a better job of correcting their players' errors. Curry's response to Jackson's criticism makes more sense.
"I don't know what he means by that," Curry said. "If you can shoot, shoot. If you can't, stop."
