Martin Taupau to Manly: Canadian Theatre Critic Breaks News

How did a Canadian theatre critic break the biggest news of the off-season?

Only days after denying rumours about an eventual move to Manly, Martin Taupau is now forced to face the truth, as his contract has been leaked to an unusual source.

An email intended for Manly CEO Joe Kelly was instead somehow sent to Canadian theatre critic James Kelly Nestruck who, despite his complete ignorance of the New Zealand Rugby League National Rugby League, knew he was on to a scoop and acted accordingly.

The four-year contract will see the hard-hitting backrower at Brookvale from 2016-2019. A fan-favourite, Taupau is undoubtedly a great signing for a Manly team which has shed a number of senior players and of course their head coach in recent months.

While it's still early days, the idea of the hard-running Taupau playing off the edge of Manly's potential five-eighth Peta Hiku is certainly an enticing prospect for Eagles fans in 2016.
