Derrick Rose is returning to practice this week. Now everybody can get over the whole melancholic "his career is over" shtick again.

After he had surgery last Wednesday to repair a fractured left orbital suffered in practice last Tuesday, Rose will rejoin the team on Wednesday.

New Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg gave positive feedback on his progress. “The follow-up [exam] went very well,” Hoiberg said after practice on Saturday. “They’ve advised him to continue to let that site heal, and they think the best way for him to do that is to stay at home at this time. We plan on him being back on Wednesday morning.”

Rose will not be practicing next week but the team believes he will be ready for October 14th, and if he doesn't have another freak accident should be ready for the season-opener against the Cavaliers in Chicago.

He's had a feast-or-famine type of career. Whether being the youngest player ever to win the NBA's most coveted award, to having recurring knee injuries which cuts short his season. And you can throw in the Bulls chances of their season end in June rather than May to that effect. But one thing he's gotten great at is the art of the comeback.
