Retiring AFL Star Adam Goodes to Dodge Lap Of Honour Amidst Booing Concerns

We won't see Adam Goodes on a slow lap of the MCG this year, as the retiring champion decides not to be booed one last time.

Adam Goodes to Dodge Lap Of Honour Amidst Booing Concerns

It seems the most internationally embarrassing sports story in Australia just won't go away. Two-time Brownlow Medallist, Australian Of The Year, AFL Premiership-winning legend Adam Goodes has announced his retirement, choosing to end his football career after playing an amazing 372 games at the game's highest level.

The fitting send-off for a statesman of the game such as Goodes is generally a lap of honour on Grand Final day, giving the fans one last time to cheer a champion before he moves on to the next phase of his life.

This won't be the case for Goodes however, who has spent the last few years embroiled in a racially-tinged booing controversy. Not wishing to be sent off by bigoted fans one last time, Goodes has scrapped the final lap in a Toyota, and will instead make his last appearance as a Sydney Swan during their Best & Fairest night on October 9.

It's a sad indictment on Australian sports, but internet trolls have still jumped on this opportunity to smear Goodes, labeling this another example of the former Swan making it 'all about himself'. Some people just don't seem to understand.
