We all have bad days at the office, and some of us look to relax with a cocktail or two to take the edge off once the work day is finished.

Professional athletes are no different, and in an ESPN The Magazine piece about the family that owns the Chicago Cubs, Kate Upton tells a story about a time when her boyfriend (and Detroit Tigers pitcher) Justin Verlander was in the mood to do exactly that.

“It was my birthday, and he had probably like his worst game ever, and no one had any idea how he’d respond to his worst game ever,” Upton said. “He vented to me in the car and was like, ‘I am going to get blackout drunk.’ So a bunch of us went out and got blackout drunk! I had really good plans to eat popcorn and watch a movie, but he was like, ‘I don’t want to think about it, at all.’”

We're not here to judge; alcohol is legal, after all, and hey -- to each his own. It's worth noting, however, that in Verlander's next start after the alleged bender, he gave up 7 runs on 12 hits in six innings, even though that game took place five days later.
