When considering the amount of revenue that college sports generate for their given universities, there's no question that the athletes who participate in them should be paid for their services.
But exactly how much?
That's something which Cork Gaines at Business Insider attempted to figure out, at least where college football is concerned. Using a reasonable mathematical formula that mimics how much revenue is distributed to players in the NFL, he determined that the average salary for a Division 1-A football player would be $149,569 per year, while players at the top money-making programs in the nation would take home far more than that.
