Professional football has never been more popular in America than it is today, and, as such, all of the peripheral events surrounding the game are receiving more coverage than ever before. From OTAs and mini-camp to the all-important NFL Draft, we’re peeling back the cover on our favorite game to find out how it really works. Anyone who’s watched the live broadcast of the NFL Draft knows that for every young athlete with a lifelong dream on the line, there is an anxious-looking guy in a suit hovering just behind him. If you’ve ever wondered just who that dude is and what purpose he serves in the player’s life, then you must watch The Agent, Esquire Network’s amazingly insightful look into the lives and careers of NFL agents. These men risk everything in order to sign the best collegiate players they possibly can, in the hope that a select few will go on to become true superstars. Being an NFL agent goes well beyond slick talk and steady hustle—these men must form strong bonds with their clients, fostering personal relationships. Once that trust is earned, the agent must then roll up his sleeves and get to work securing the best possible situation for his client, which is not always easy when the player is an unknown commodity. The Agent will track four NFL agents—Jeff Guerriero, Peter Schaffer, Sunny Shah, and Ed Wasielewski—as they recruit and then go to work for pro prospects entering the 2015 NFL Draft. The clip above should get you amped for this intense new series, which begins airing on Tuesday, August 11 at 10/9c, only on Esquire Network.
