Peyton Manning Feared the Patriots Were Bugging the Gillette Stadium Visitor's Locker Room

The savvy veteran reportedly held strategic meetings in a hallway because you can never be too careful.

Back in 2010, Sports Illustrated's Peter King wrote a blurb on a paranoid Peyton Manning talking strategy in a stadium hallway out of fear that the Patriots were bugging their visiting locker room. At the time it was just a rumor, today it was confirmed as fact (the part about Manning, not the part about the bug). Ex-coach Tony Dungy admitted as much on the Dan Patrick Show, and cited ex-Patriots as the reason for the cautiousness:

“I know that that is very true, and, you know, as Peyton talked to guys who played for the Patriots, some of the guys who came over — whether it’s true or not he treated it as true. We didn’t have a lot of strategy discussions inside the locker room there."

In his career Manning has been un-Manning-like against New England, going 6-13 against them in the regular season. In addition to that, he's been bounced twice from the postseason while playing in Foxboro. Meanwhile his younger/goofier brother Eli has beaten them in two Super Bowls in neutral stadiums. Coincidence?

Yeah, probably.
