Giants Legend Frank Gifford Passes Away at 84

Frank Gifford earned eight Pro Bowl selections and led the Giants to an NFL Championship.

The Giants organization has a long line of greats, and Frank Gifford stands near the start of that lineage. The Hall of Fame defensive back/wide receiver/halfback and announcer passed away this Sunday at the age of 84. He was found unresponsive at his Connecticut home.

Gifford was known to be a dominant force on both ends of the ball and made the Pro Bowl at multiple positions. He also has a great comeback story: After suffering a severe head injury from a brutal tackle, Gifford became a star receiver after an 18-month sabbatical.

After his playing days ended, Gifford became an NFL commentator for CBS and joined Howard Cosell and Don Meredith in the Monday Night Football booth until 1997. He married Kathie Lee Gifford (Live! with Regis and Kathie LeeTODAY) in 1986.

The Gifford family released a statement following his death.

"We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being," the statement said. "We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers."
