MLS Is Totally Shameless, Will Have Floats in the Women's World Cup Parade in New York City

Did we miss when MLS won the Women's World Cup or…?

Did the New York Red Bulls or New York City FC win the 2015 World Cup? Uh, no. Even people who know absolutely nothing about soccer could probably tell you that the MLS has absolutely nothing to do with the World Cup. And yet, for some reason, the Red Bulls, NYC FC, and MLS as a whole will reportedly have floats in the parade that's being held for the U.S. Women's National Team in New York City tomorrow to celebrate their World Cup win. They will join the National Women's Soccer League and the NWSL's Sky Blue FC on the parade route.

It's a strange set of circumstances when you consider why the parade is being held in the first place. The parade is supposed to honor the women who brought the World Cup back home to the United States. But instead of allowing that to happen, it sounds like MLS is going to try to steal some of the attention that the women are going to get away from them in an effort to…well, we don't know what the plan is. We guess that a few people might—might!—see the MLS float or the Red Bulls float or the NYC FC float and think, "Hey, you know what I need to start doing? Watching more MLS!" But it's going to be weird to see them shoehorned into a parade that's not actually meant for them.

The good news is that not everyone is trying to steal the USWNT's thunder. The NASL's New York Cosmos were reportedly offered a spot in the parade, but they declined out of respect for what the USWNT was able to do. Maybe other teams and organizations—ahem—should have done the same.
