When LeBron James was with the Miami Heat, the team used the amnesty provision to part ways with Mike Miller, in a move that was about dollars more than it was about the makeup of the roster, at least in James' eyes.
It's no secret that part of the reason LeBron returned to Cleveland was the level of control he'd have over the makeup of the roster. He immediately recruited Miller, as well as former teammate James Jones.
The Cavaliers know they must keep LeBron happy, or risk losing him in free agency once again. That's probably why the team made sure to get permission before trading Miller this summer.
This may seem silly on the surface, and some may question a player holding such a high level of power within the organization. The Thunder didn't consult Kevin Durant before firing their head coach, after all, and Durant can similarly bolt in free agency at the conclusion of the upcoming season.
But LeBron and the Cavaliers have a very unique relationship. And you can bet that owner Dan Gilbert isn't going to do anything that will give the game's best player any reason at all to even think about playing anywhere else.
