Becky Hammon has been pretty successful since becoming the Spurs' assistant coach. The locker room respects her, and the response to her performance has been positive. Plus, Hammon led the Spurs to a Summer League title. So there's a chance that she could become the first female head coach in the league, right? There's no sarcastic, "Well, not quite," here. Executives are reportedly thinking of giving her a head coaching position.

CBS Sports Ken Berger gathered quotes from anonymous sources saying that Hammon does have a shot at being in charge.

Commissioner Adam Silver also said there's "no doubt" a female NBA head coach will exist. The Michael Sam saga may have many feeling a bit jaded when it comes to such firsts in sports. But the NBA has shown it has a more progressive mindset than the NFL.

Hammon is qualified to be such a first. She got Gregg Popovich to give her props. What more do you need?

"I don't even look at it as, well, she's the first female this and that and the other. She's a coach, and she's good at it," Popovich said.
