When Damian Lillard declared for the 2012 NBA Draft, he was only six credits short of completing his degree in Professional Sales from Weber State University. Even though his decision to leave early paid off as he was selected with the sixth overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers, Lillard promised his mother, Gina Johnson, that he would eventually get his college degree.
Lillard was able to finish his three courses and the necessary assignments through the Weber State extension program which worked around his NBA schedule. After passing a five-hour exam on the WSU campus in Ogden, Utah last fall, the Trail Blazers point guard was officially a college graduate.
On May 1, Lillard donned the cap and gown for the day his mom has been waiting three years for.
