Drunk driving is not a laughing matter, especially if you're an NFL player. Over the last decade or so, the league has been forced to deal with a pretty serious drunk driving issue that has seen quite a few players get arrested for DUI (see here, here, and here for examples of this). So when Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin decided to try and trick his Twitter followers for April Fools' Day this morning, he probably should have picked a different topic.

But Irvin didn't. Instead, he woke up and took to Twitter to announce that he had gotten himself into trouble last night. He even tagged the @Seahawks in his tweet and everything:

And naturally, most people believed him because, well, who would make a joke out of drunk driving? There were even several Seattle media outlets that took Irvin's tweets and started to run with them as news items since Irvin didn't sound like he was joking.

However, about 25 minutes later, Irvin jumped back on Twitter to announce that he was just joking:

LOL, right? Uh, no. In fact, there were quite a few people who were very upset with Irvin's April Fools' Day joke. So a short time later, he sent out another tweet telling people to "relax":

That tweet has seemingly fallen on deaf ears, though. Because since Irvin pulled his prank, he's been hit with more angry tweets from people who are pissed after seeing him make light of such a serious problem:

And we tend to agree with them. Aside from the fact that Irvin shouldn't be joking about drunk driving, his April Fools' Day stunt simply wasn't funny. And we imagine the Seahawks weren't real happy with their linebacker when they saw what he had done. So it comes as no surprise to see that Irvin has already apologized and banned himself from Twitter for the rest of the day:

Let's hope this is the last bad April Fools' Day joke that an athlete is involved in today.
