Manchester City's next record breaking signing could be their biggest yet.

According to Spanish football expert Graham Hunter, the Premier League champions are growing more and more confident that they'll be the club to swoop Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo away from Real Madrid.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Revista De La Liga, Hunter said:

"I know that the players at Manchester City were talking very, very firmly that they believed there was a successful move coming from that club over the last couple of weeks, whether that makes it true or not, I wouldn't like to say.

What we know is the mega clubs, with petrodollars, there's never been a better time to say: 'Well, would you like to cash in on your chips?' Ultimately, it [the future] will always be down to the player. When you are No. 1 in the world, he will decide."

Just like his nemesis Lionel Messi, Ronaldo's future has been the subject of much transfer speculation. All isn't well at Real Madrid following an El Clasico defeat to Barcelona this week and rumors suggest that Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti will leave at the end of the season.

Given that Manchester City's Premier League title defense is on very shaky ground, we don't blame the players for praying wanting to believe that Ronaldo is on his way to the Etihad Stadium.
