After losing the first set of her Hopman Cup match against Flavia Pennetta on Monday, Serena Williams was still feeling the effects of jet lag in Perth, Australia. So, how did Williams turn it around and defeat Flavia, 0-6, 6-3, 6-0? Three words: Thank you, Espresso.

During the break in-between sets, Williams asked the ball girl to get her a cup of Espresso before clearing up the legality of the request with the chair umpire. Serena asked, laughing, “I mean, I don’t know if it’s allowed. Is it allowed?” Eventually, a small cup of coffee and a bagel were sent over and she made quick work of Pennetta from there.

Following the match, Williams discussed the situation, saying, "I was just feeling it, so I just had to get some coffee into me. I just asked them to get me a shot of espresso -- I asked them if it was legal, because I've never done it before. I needed to wake up."
