After brief stints in the Championship Wrestling from Florida and Georgia Championship Wrestling promotions, Tito Santana joined the WWE in 1979 and stayed there almost exclusively until 1993. He never won the WWE Heavyweight Championship but he did play a major part in both the Intercontinental and Tag Team divisions and was the first Mexican-American to ever win the Intercontinental belt. He was also one of the wrestlers who helped the WWE go from a regional to a national success.
