Last week, Derrick Rose donned a t-shirt during warmups with the now famous last words of Eric Garner, ‘I can’t breathe.’ Then, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Garnett, and others wore the same shirt to show their solidarity and support.

Now, DeSean Jackson is set to become the latest professional athlete to use his high-profile status to protest the controversial death of Mr. Garner.

Today, Jackson posted an Instagram pic of the cleats he plans to wear on Sunday during Washington’s game against the New York Giants, which will be emblazoned with the same words, ‘I can’t breathe.’

Jackson will join fellow NFL players Reggie Bush and Johnson Bademosi, who have already displayed their support for Eric Garner.

Nike has already warned players against customization of any sort on footwear, but a situation like this calls for serious thinking before action is taken.
