Steve Smith Wants You to Know He's Not a "Thug" Off the Football Field

Just FYI.

Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith isn't anything like what you might expect him to be off the football field. Yes, he enjoys taunting defensive backs during games. Yes, he's known to get into scuffles with guys who try to talk trash to him. And yes, he will do everything in his power to embarrass you if you get on his bad side. But in a new profile for MMQB, Smith makes it perfectly clear that he's a much different person in real life.

For example, Smith is a big fan of salads. He also loves to bake (yes, bake). And when he has downtime, he enjoys reading, traveling, and looking up inspirational quotes. Basically, he's a complex guy and not a "thug," which is what some NFL fans have labeled him as based on his play on the field.

"There's a perception of me that I'm a hothead and an idiot," he told MMQB. "That's because I'm aggressive on the football field, I'm a thug. But look, just because you see me [doing one thing] in my workplace doesn't mean I walk around stiff-arming people and spinning cantaloupe in the grocery store."

You can read the rest of Smith's MMQB feature here. If you want to know how Smith has managed to survive 14 years in the NFL, it has all the answers.
