Michael Vick Admits He Wasn't Prepared to Play Against Chargers

More bad news for the Jets.

Why didn't Michael Vick look very good last weekend when he was forced into action in the second half of a game against the Chargers? Was it because the Jets don't have enough talent surrounding him to be successful, as his brother Marcus Vick suggested, or was it because he didn't prepare well enough in the week leading up to the game? Truthfully, it's probably a bit of both. But yesterday, Vick basically admitted that he wasn't 100 percent prepared to play on Sunday.

"I felt like I, for some reason, being a quarterback in his 12th year, sometimes you take things for granted," he told ESPN New York. "I think I took the scout team for granted…Maybe I didn't prepare or I wasn't prepared, but let me tell you, it won't happen again."

Later, Vick seemed to backtrack a little by saying that he "didn't say" he "wasn't ready." But he also said that he regularly allows his fellow backup quarterback Matt Simms to take snaps during practice, which cuts into the number of reps that he gets every week.

"I try to let Matt Simms get as many reps as he can," he said. "Being a young, growing quarterback, he's trying to develop as well, and I understand how important it is for him, so we split reps and I still won't be selfish in that regard. I'll still allow Matt to get reps, and just take full advantage of mine and work on the small things, movement in the pocket, my presence, accuracy, everything the quarterback position entails."

And he said that he won't be unprepared again.

"I learned my lesson last week: Always stay ready, always be prepared," he said.

Hmmm…Doesn't that sound like a lesson that Vick should he learned a looooooong time ago? Or better yet, doesn't that sound like a lesson that he should be teaching to Geno "Gone Girl Was Great But I Should Have Been At My Team Meeting Instead Of The Movies" Smith now that everyone on the Jets seems to be questioning Smith's leadership? The Jets are already a mess, and Vick's latest admission just makes things even messier. This team needs a win—or hell, a moral victory!—this weekend against the Broncos, or else things are only going to get worse for them from here on out…
