If you want to learn more about Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner—the MVP of the 2014 World Series—then you should learn more about his dad. Late last night, about an hour after Bumgarner threw five innings in relief to help San Francisco win their third World Series in five years, the New York Times caught up with Kevin Bumgarner in Dudley Shoals, N.C. to talk about his son. And one of the first things that Kevin said to the NYT revealed a lot about the younger Bumgarner.

"I didn't know if he had enough left tonight," he said. "But I did know that boy would try to steal a steak off the devil's plate."

It's a great quote. And it's one of many, many great quotes provided by Kevin over the course of the last week or so. He invited the NYT—who, by the way, did not have an invitation to visit him—into his home and talked at length about Bumgarner. And in the process, he proved to be one of the coolest dads we've ever seen.

You can read the entire piece here. It'll tell you just about everything you need to know about Bumgarner himself, without including a single quote from the World Series MVP.
