In 1951 Giants outfielder Bobby Thomson hit a walk-off home run to win the pennant in a clip you've probably seen a thousand times (whether you're a baseball fan or not). We have no way of knowing if tonight's walk-off blast from outfielder Travis Ishikawa will be as timelessly iconic, but regardless it gave San Francisco a 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, and with it their third pennant in the last five seasons.
For St. Louis fans it's a bitter pill to swallow suppository to have shoved up you bum, but you can rest easy knowing that next year's a sure thing as the last five National League pennants have gone (in order): Giants, Cardinals, Giants, Cardinals, Giants.
With the victory the Giants will face-off against the Kansas City Royals who are riding a perfect 8-0 postseason record into the World Series. The season's final showdown begins in Kansas City on Tuesday night.
