We live in an era of such watered-down corporate analysis that it's refreshing to see a studio analyst say something that doesn't sound NFL approved. Well tonight, on the first night of the football season, former Pittsburgh Steeler and current NBC studio analyst had a few things to say about Richard Sherman the Seattle Seahawks All-Pro DB/Lightning rod.

1.

First, Hines channeled his inner-John Lennon and dropped the quote attributed to him (and pictured) above. Then he took it a step further and hit him by saying "He doesn't deserve to be on the Madden cover," which is a low blow for a league whose players are dependent upon endorsements to cover future medical costs.

2.

Hines Ward: "Sherman is on the cover of Madden and he spent tonight covering Jarrett Boykin. How can you be best when you're on a nobody?"

We're thinking it's because the Packers lined it up that way and Seattle doesn't switch coverages. But, then again, maybe it was just a hypothetical.
