Star Georgia running back Todd Gurley was falsely accused of assault on Tuesday morning after a UGA student called Athens, GA police saying Gurley had struck him at a local bar.

The student, who called the police at 3:18 a.m., said he had been trying to take a picture of himself at the bar with Gurley in the background (read: selfie). At some point during the course of these events, the student was suddenly and unexpectedly hit. The student said Gurley was the one who struck him. However, after reviewing video evidence, police were able to determine Gurley was not the culprit. In fact, the man who hit the student was white.

Gurley, who was later interviewed by a detective following the accusation, said he did not know the person who hit the student, nor did he even see the student get hit. Gurley said his only interaction with the student came after he tried to pick up a hat that had fallen off the student's head while he was getting pushed around by some "other guys". However, even though Gurley was trying to help him, the student, in his apparent confusion, called Gurley a racial slur. It was around then that the student was hit. Soon after, he was kicked out of the bar.

The next morning, while being interviewed by Athens police, the student said he did not want to pursue his allegation against Gurley. Considering the evidence at hand, his decision to drop the accusation is probably the smartest thing he's done in about 24 hours.

Gurley has rushed for 610 yards this season and 6 TDs.
