Would you consider Carmelo Anthony to be "underrated"? Hmmm…We wouldn't. We could argue that Melo deserves to be a bit underrated, seeing as how he hasn't enjoyed a ton of postseason success during his decade-plus in the NBA. But we would still rate him as a top-five player. The guy is a scoring machine and is probably the best pure scorer in the league at the moment. So he gets nothing but respect from us.
However, with that being said, a quick Google search of "Carmelo Anthony underrated" tells us that there are plenty of people out there who consider Melo underrated. NBA-related message boards are filled with Melo haters and people who are quick to point out Melo's shortcomings as a player. And as a result of it, there's a belief that Melo might be underrated when compared to other NBA superstars. And apparently, Melo himself believes that, too.
Earlier today, Melo spoke with ESPN's Chris Broussard at Knicks media day, and he revealed that he thinks he's the "most underrated superstar" in the league right now:
