Late yesterday, the NFL told Jerry Jones and the Cowboys that they were suspending Dallas cornerback Orlando Scandrick for the first four games of the 2014-15 NFL season because he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs recently. However, as it turns out, Scandrick did not test positive for anything that would help him on the football field. Instead, it seems he tested positive for using MDMA—a.k.a. "Molly"—during a vacation that he took to Mexico with his ex-girlfriend Draya Michele earlier this year.
ESPN's Ed Werder spoke with a source with knowledge of the reason behind Scandrick's suspension and that source confirmed that the Cowboys corner tested positive for MDMA that was consumed in Mexico:
According to Werder, it makes Scandrick the 21st player to be suspended by the NFL for using Molly:
And while Scandrick himself didn't confirm that he used MDMA specifically, he did put out a statement this morning through his agent confirming that he tested positive for PEDs because of a drug that he unknowingly took while he was on vacation in Mexico:
Scandrick is expected to speak with the media later today and will obviously be asked more about his suspension. But in the meantime, there's been a lot of reaction to Scandrick's suspension on Twitter. Here are some of the tweets that we've seen about it:
Stay tuned for more developments on the suspension, which will ultimately end up costing Scandrick approximately $1 million.
