Early this morning, Twitter began percolating with news that Italy striker Mario Balotelli was just hours, if not minutes away from leaving AC Milan to make a return to the Premier League with Liverpool. The agreed upon fee between the two clubs is reportedly £16 million, while personal terms between Balotelli and Liverpool are still being discussed. This would be Super Mario’s second stint in England’s top flight, after playing for Manchester City from 2010-13. During that period, Balotelli helped The Citizens capture a Premier League title, as well as an FA Cup and Community Shield trophy. Still just 24 years old, Balotelli would be joining the fifth club of his career with his transfer to Merseyside, and Twitter has of course decided to weigh in on the move. There were tweets of support, comparisons to Luis Suarez, and the feeling that this is one of the best-value signings of this summer’s transfer window. Andy Carroll just can't catch a break.

When you consider Shane Long cost Southampton £12 million...

Don't kid yourself Liverpool fans... Mario Balotelli is NOT an upgrade.

— Payam Dastmalchi (@payamd) August 21, 2014

Apparently not everyone is hopping on the Mario Balotelli train back to England.

Sturridge's ego, Balotelli's mental instability and Brendan's general foppery is going to be so much fun

So you're not a season ticket holder at Anfield?

@FootbalIStuff: Liverpool printing Mario Balotelli shirts already.. http://t.co/G5zfW356V1” OMG 😫😫

— Al-Qulish (@mohammed_winner) August 21, 2014

Yo, Drake, what size you need?

Southampton pay £12m for Shane Long, Liverpool pay £16m for Mario Balotelli! Who's the winner & loser!! #LFC #saintsfc

— andrew j edwards (@AjeEdwards) August 21, 2014

It's not that Shane Long is necessarily bad, it's just that Mario Balotelli is probably worth much more than the £4 million difference.

A great signing by @LFC..... A like for like with balotelli for suarez!!! ONE LOOSE CANNON FOR ANOTHER!!!

— Lewis Thompson (@LThompson1985) August 21, 2014

But wouldn't Liverpool have hung onto Suarez if they could've? Still, Balotelli's track record does suggest he'll be in some sort of trouble sooner or later.

Even Manchester City fans can't hide their excitement at having Balotelli back in the Premier League.

Some extra spice to the Mario Balotelli to Anfield move. Liverpool's next game is against Man City on Monday night. #LFC #MCFC

How awesome would it be for Balotelli's first game back in England to be against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium? #whowritesthistuff?

You think Balotelli knows all the words to "Love Me Do?"

The good news for Liverpool is that Mario Balotelli has never bitten anyone on a football field. *sarcasm* 😂

— Shamsudeen Y. Tanko (@shamsrimez) August 21, 2014

This is true, to our knowledge.

Give it to Liverpool though, fans asked for a striker last week, brought in Mario Balotelli at a banging price

— Sugar Puff (@No10_Manny) August 21, 2014

Everyone has to tip their cap to getting a steal, especially in today's transfer market.

He won't score goals but he'll be a good laugh, and that's all that matters #balotelli

— Ross Miller (@At_RossMiller) August 21, 2014

Haters gonna hate. This doesn't seem to be the overwhelming opinion, though.

Signing Balotelli as replacement for Suarez like jumping out of frying pan and into fire http://t.co/ofpZ8CFoZR#lfc pic.twitter.com/Kb6l9znu2M"

Regardless of how good the value is for Liverpool, it's hard to deny the similarity between Suarez and Balotelli.

At least Liverpool is used to dealing with star strikers and lengthy bans?
