With sluggers like Giancarlo Stanton and Jose Bautista in the competition this year, it seemed as though coming away on top was going to be a tall task for Yoenis Cespedes. But for the first time since Ken Griffey, Jr. accomplished the feat in 1998 and 1999, Cespedes has won the Home Run Derby in back-to-back years after defeating the Reds' Todd Frazier in the final, 9-1.
After beating out Athletics teammate Jason Donaldson in a tiebreaker to reach the second round, Cespedes took that momentum and never let it go. With the surging Bautista who hit 10 homers in the first round standing in his way, Yoenis was able to top the Blue Jays outfielder, 7-4, in a head-to-head matchup. With the A's slugger in the zone heading into the final against Frazier, who beat Stanton even though he only hit one long ball, Cespedes outlasted the Cincy third baseman to capture his second straight Home Run Derby title (and a WWE championship belt).
