Codenamed 988, you can think of this as a kind of toned down 918 Spyder.

It seems that the fastest growing segment is the $250,000-$300,000 mid-engined supercar segment, because wealth disparity. Everybody is jumping in on this cash cow and trying to take a little of the Ferrari 458 and McLaren 650S' thunder. Porsche is no different.

Porsche's upcoming car, codenamed 988, will be based on a new platform that will underpin all of Porsche's mid-engined offerings from the potential baby Boxster all the way up to this supercar. Better yet is that the 988 will most likely be powered by a 4.0L flat eight producing 600 horsepower. That sounds it should get the job done while being a unique and characterful mill.

We expect it to look somewhat like the 918 (pictured).
