No, that is not a typo. Just 50 automobiles and four motorcycles have been sold in Cuba over the past six months since the government lifted car-buying restrictions at the beginning of the year.
Overall sales totaled around $1.3 million according to Fox News, an average of about $24,000 per vehicle. That may seem like a reasonably priced car to most folks; however consider that many Cubans earn only $20 a month working for the government.
Most of the cars aren’t even new due to massive mark-ups on fresh cars in the country. For example, a new Kia Rio hatchback recently listed for $42,000 in Cuba, which is more than triple its value in the United States ($13,600).
