The New York Yankees have responded to losing C.C. Sabathia for the season, acquiring veteran righthander Brandon McCarthy from the Arizona Diamondbacks:

Sources: #Yankees were working last night to acquire Brandon McCarthy from #DBacks for Vidal Nuno. Deal appears close.
Check that, deal is done: McCarthy to #Yankees.

McCarthy has not had his finest year for Arizona, posting a 3-10 record to go with a 5.01 ERA. He’s been better of late (2-0, 2.13 ERA in his last two starts), however, and has a track record of success in the American League.

The Yankees desperately needed pitching help too, losing both Michael Pineda and Ivan Nova in addition to Sabathia. Vidal Nuno, whom they sent to the Diamondbacks for McCarthy, had made 17 appearances for New York this season (including 14 starts), posting a 5.42 ERA.
